The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 And We carried him upon a thing of planks and nails, 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 How terrible then was My punishment and My warning. 16 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 We sent a raging wind against them on a day of continuous calamity. 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 22
