And mention in the Book Mary when she withdrew from her people to an eastern place, 16 and she took a veil apart from them; then We sent unto her Our Spirit that presented himself to her a man without fault. 17 (And when she saw him) she said: 'I take refuge in the Merciful from you! If you are fearful' 18 He replied: "I am only a messenger from your Lord (sent) to bestow a good son on you." 19 She said, 'How shall I have a son whom no mortal has touched, neither have I been unchaste?' 20 The angel said: "Thus shall it be. Your Lord says: 'It is easy for Me; and We shall do so in order to make him a Sign for mankind and a mercy from Us. This has been decreed.' " 21 ۞ So she conceived him; then withdrew herself with him to a remote place. 22 And the pangs of childbirth drove her unto the trunk of the palm-tree. She said: Oh, would that I had died ere this and had become a thing of naught, forgotten! 23 Then one cried unto her from underneath her, that grieve not, thy Lord hath placed underneath thou a rivulet. 24 And shake the trunk of the palm-tree toward thee, thou wilt cause ripe dates to fall upon thee. 25 Therefore eat and drink and rejoice with your eyes. If you meet any human say to him: "I have vowed a fast to the Merciful and will not speak with anyone today.' 26 Carrying her child, she brought him to her people. They said, "O Mary, you have indeed done something terrible! 27 O sister of Harun: thy father was not a man of evil, nor was thy mother a harlot. 28 Thereupon she pointed to him. They exclaimed: "How can we talk to one who [as yet] is a little boy in the cradle?" 29 He (the baby) said: 'I am the worshiper of Allah. Allah has given me the Book and made me a Prophet. 30 "And He has made me blessed wheresoever I be, and has enjoined on me Salat (prayer), and Zakat, as long as I live." 31 And dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me insolent, unblessed; 32 I was born with peace and I shall die and be brought to life again with peace." 33 Such was the true story of Jesus, the son of Mary, about which they dispute bitterly. 34 Allah is not one to take to Himself a son. Hallowed be He! whensoever He decreeth an affair he only Saith to it: be, and it becometh. 35 Indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord therefore worship Him. That is the Straight Path. 36 But parties from among them disagreed with each other, so woe to those who disbelieve, because of presence on a great day. 37 See and hear them on the Day they come unto Us! yet the evil-doers are today in error manifest. 38 And warn them (O Muhammad SAW) of the Day of grief and regrets, when the case has been decided, while (now) they are in a state of carelessness, and they believe not. 39 Verily! We will inherit the earth and whatsoever is thereon. And to Us they all shall be returned, 40
