The people of Thamud rejected Our warnings. 23 For they said; Is it a mortal man, alone among us, that we are to follow? Then indeed we should fall into error and madness. 24 How is it that he has received guidance? In fact, he is the most untruthfull and arrogant person". 25 'They shall surely know tomorrow who is the impudent liar. 26 “We shall send a she-camel to test them, therefore O Saleh, wait and have patience.” 27 And inform them that the water is to be shared between (her and) them. Each one's right to drink being established (by turns). 28 Then they called their fellow, and he took the sword and hamstrung her, 29 Ah! how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 30 Surely We sent upon them a single cry, so they were like the dry fragments of trees which the maker of an enclosure collects. 31 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 32 The nation of Lot belied Our warnings. 33 Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, 34 As a reward from Us; this is how We reward one who gives thanks. 35 For he had truly warned them of Our punishing might; but they stubbornly cast doubt on these warnings, 36 and even demanded that he give up his guests [to them]: whereupon We deprived them of their sight [and thus told them, as it were]: "Taste, then, the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded!" 37 And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment. 38 "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 39 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 40
