The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Merciful One 1 Has taught the Qur’an to His beloved Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 2 He hath created man. 3 He hath taught him utterance. 4 [At His behest] the sun and the moon run their appointed courses; 5 And the herbs (or stars) and the trees both prostrate. 6 And the heaven He has raised high, and He has set up the Balance. 7 That you may not be inordinate in respect of the measure. 8 But observe the measure strictly, nor fall short thereof. 9 And the earth hath He appointed for (His) creatures, 10 There are fruits of all kinds on it, and date-palms with their clusters sheathed, 11 And grain having husks and scented plants. 12 (Jinn and mankind) - which of the favors of your Lord do you deny? 13 He has created man, from dry ringing clay, like the potter"s, 14 and jinn from the many colored flames of fire. 15 (Jinn and mankind) - which of the favors of your Lord do you deny? 16 Lord of the East and Lord of the West. 17 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 18 He has made the two oceans meet each other, 19 There is a barrier between them. They encroach not (one upon the other). 20 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -- 21 Out of them both come out pearl and coral. 22 O which of your Lord's bounties will you and you deny? 23 And His are the lofty ships that sail like [floating] mountains through the seas. 24 Which of your Lord's wonders would you deny? 25
