The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
