The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And wide eyed houris 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And shade extended 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 and upraised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
