The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and serried acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
