The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
