The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and amid the extended shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgins. 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
