The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins. 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
