The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there is no denying its coming 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and spreading shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For those on the right hand; 38
