The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 facing one another. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgins. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
