The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 a host of the ancients 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and shade extended, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
