The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And shade extended 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those of the right hand. 38
