The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and flowing water 31 and fruits abounding 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 and made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
