The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a few from later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and shade extended, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those on the right hand; 38
