The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 The reward for what they did. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and flowing water 31 and abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 and raised couches 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
