The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And shade extended 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 We have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
