The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And spreading shade, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
