The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
