A company of the former peoples 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
