Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 They were endowed with good things 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74
