a multitude of the ancients, 39 and many from the later generations. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
