The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 and purify your robes, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
