These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and many from the later generations. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
