These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
