Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The indubitable event! 1 What is the Reality? 2 And what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is? 3 THE LIE gave [the tribes of] Thamud and 'Ad to [all tidings of] that sudden calamity! 4 Now as for the Thamud - they were destroyed by a violent upheaval [of the earth]; 5 And as for A'ad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind, 6 which God let loose against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you could have seen its people lying prostrate as though they were the hollow trunks of palm-trees which had fallen down. 7 Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them? 8 And Fir'awn and those before him and the overturned cities committed sin. 9 They did not follow the Messenger of their Lord, and so He seized them with a severe grip. 10 And when the waters rose (high) We carried you in the sailing (Ark), 11 making it a Reminder for you, for all attentive ears to retain. 12 When a single blast is blown on the trumpet, 13 and the earth and the mountains are lifted up and then crushed with a single blow, 14 Then on that Day shall happen the Event. 15 And the heaven shall cleave asunder, so that on that day it shall be frail, 16 And the angels shall be on the borders thereof; and on that Day eight shall bear over them the Throne of thy Lord. 17 On that day you shall be exposed, not one secret of yours concealed. 18 Then he who is given his record in his right hand will exclaim, "Here is my record, read it. 19 Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning. 20 So he shall be in a life of pleasure, 21 in a lofty Garden, 22 The fruits of which are near at hand: 23 'Eat and drink with wholesome appetite for that you did long ago, in the days gone by.' 24 But, he who is given his book in his left hand will say: 'Woe to me, would that my book had not been given to me! 25 Nor known whatever was my reckoning! 26 Would that it (my death) had ended it all! 27 My wealth has been of no use to me. 28 Gone from me is my authority." 29 "Seize him and manacle him, 30 Then throw him in the blazing Fire. 31 Then thrust him into a chain the length of which is seventy cubits. 32 "This was he that would not believe in Allah Most High. 33 nor would he urge the feeding of the poor. 34 So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend 35 Nor any food except refuse, 36 which only the sinners eat". 37
