The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 And the family in which he was. 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
