The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 Are free of blame, 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
