The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 So those who desire more than this it is they who are the transgressors. 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
