In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
