In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
