The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
