Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 in a Garden on high, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions ranged 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
