The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And pollution shun. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made things easy for them. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he thought; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
