The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
