The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
