The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
