The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
