The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 it will be a hard day 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
