The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your clothing purify 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
