The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your garments purify! 4 shun uncleanness; 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
