The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked around, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
