The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 and purify your clothing, 4 stay away from sins 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
