The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
