The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
