The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your clothing purify 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 it will be a hard day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
