Nay, and by the moon, 32 By the night when it departs. 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 As a warning unto men, 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 concerning the sinners, 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 And did not feed the needy, 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. 48 What aileth them, therefore, that they are from the admonition turning away? 49 As they were frightened asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). 56
