Resurrection (Al-Qeyaamah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I swear by the Day of Resurrection 1 Nay! I swear by the self-accusing soul. 2 Does man assume that We will never assemble his bones? 3 Surely yes, why not? We can properly make all his phalanxes. 4 But man desires to continue in sin. 5 He asketh: when will the Day of Resurrection be? 6 But when sight is confounded 7 And the moon becomes dark, 8 And the sun and moon will be joined together (by going one into the other or folded up or deprived of their light, etc.) 9 That Day will Man say: "Where is the refuge?" 10 Never so, for there will be no escape. 11 on that Day, to your Lord alone is the recourse. 12 Upon that day man shall be told his former deeds and his latter; 13 In fact, man himself is keeping an eye on his state of affairs! 14 Though he may put forth his excuses (to cover his evil deeds). 15 MOVE NOT thy tongue in haste, [repeating the words of the revelation:] 16 Surely on Us (devolves) the collecting of it and the reciting of it. 17 When We recite it, follow its recitation. 18 and then, it will be for Us to make its meaning clear. 19 But no. You love this transient life, 20 And neglect the Hereafter. 21 On the Day of Judgment some faces will be bright, 22 Looking at their Lord. 23 And how many faces on that Day will be woe-begone 24 Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking. 25 Nay, when (the soul) reaches to the collar bone (i.e. up to the throat in its exit), 26 and it is said: 'Who is a healing chanter' 27 He will then realise it is the parting, 28 And one shank is entangled with the other shank. 29 unto thy Lord that Day is the drive. 30
