The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the great event, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
